Interview Questions

Why you love the sport of pentathlon?
I really enjoy the variety of sports given in pentathlon and how it combines so many different aspects of sports opposed to being a more singular experience. Pentathlon was also the first ever sport I took an interest in competing in so I also fell in love with the competitiveness of it as well.
When you got involved in pentathlon and why?
Around 2018 was when I first started fencing and I joined entirely randomly with no real reason as to why. I had been in a swim club at the same time so when hearing about the club offering both swimming and fencing it made the most sense to do that. Now while training both swimming and fencing the next step was just to join the full pentathlon and train for the other events.
How often do you train (per week or month)?
5-7 times per week
Of the five sports of pentathlon (fencing, swimming, equestrian, shooting and running), which do you consider your best?
I consider my best event is fencing
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy watching movies and TV shows in my spare time
Do you participate in other sports?
I played on the Bowness High School volleyball and badminton teams this year.
Are there any other athletes in your family?
My Younger brother (Hayden Chow) and Father (Ken Chow)
Education?
Completed grade 11 at Bowness High School
What career would you like to pursue or are you currently pursuing?
I would like to pursue and learn more about the field of Criminology
Languages?
English
Future goals (in sport & or work)?
In sport, I would like to compete internationally representing Canada
What is the greatest challenge you have faced?
Being able to stay motivated during and after COVID-19 Pandemic was the greatest challenge I have faced as an athlete.
In the moments when I doubt that I want to continue, how do I motivate myself?
I think of how in the future I may regret not taking the opportunities given to me now.
How has being an athlete benefited you (positive effects in your life that you would not have had otherwise)?
I think I’ve made some of my closest friends and companions because of sports that I would not have met otherwise as well as giving me confidence that I carry with me in other aspects of life.
