Rio 2016 Nominated Olympian Donna Vakalis Defends National Title at the 2015 Canadian Pentathlon Championships
Olympian Donna Vakalis (Toronto, ON) defended her national title and became the 2015 National Female Champion after posting the fastest combined run-laser shoot effort for the day. Fellow Olympian Melanie McCann (Mount Carmel, ON) was a close 2nd , followed in 3rd place by Beatrice Cigagna (Schomberg, ON). Toronto’s Kelly Fitzsimmons won the senior Equestrian Show Jumping phase of the event with a faultless ride.
Pan American Games team member Garnett Stevens (Rockland, ON) won his first National Men’s Championship title. Close behind in 2nd place was Christopher Rudolph (Orangeville , ON), who was also the top senior fencer for the competition and won the suspenseful fencing ladder. Baden’s own Evin Ballantyne captured 3rd place.
Youth Division Championship winners included Ian Davidson (Guelph, ON), Danja Currie-Olsen (Calgary, AB), Georgia Rudolph (Orangeville ON), Max Janousek (Loretto, ON), Maria Kagolovskaya, (Wellesley, ON) and Taylor & Cameron Carney (Kincardine, ON).
Masters Division Championship winners included Jane Rusconi (Kentucky, USA) and Bob Noble (Coquitlam, BC) , whilst the 4 phase division winners were Eric Lucko (Elmira, ON) and Brynn Simmons (Toronto, ON).
Pentathlon Canada governs the sport of pentathlon in Canada, supporting our provincial associations and national team athletes in building a supportive environment for our sport.
